Here are the directions. Hope they work for you :)
1.Pull the lever to open the hood inside the left side under your steering wheel.
2. Open the hood.
3.There is a black plastic lever on the column to the Passenger's side view same on the Driver's side.
4.Push it so that it %26quot;loosens%26quot; the column holding the light casing.
5. Gently push the column forward to get the entire casing for the headlight bulb out.
6.Unhook the wires attached to the light.
7.Take the light out on a table and unclip the black tab.
8.Unhooked the clips on the side of the casing, and then the wire clip holding the bulb. (Close the clip the same way you opened it) .
9. Touch only the metal part or use a paper towel to hold the new headlight bulb (The oils from our hands will make the halogen bulb not last as long.)

when i worked at a VW dealer, i sold people the bulbs and let them do it themselves... many of them couldn't, the typical VW owner isn't capable of the steps you just listed.
