I am trying to change the headlight bulb on a 2001 Mitsubishi galant but the connector will not come off. WHY

I have a repair book that says it should just slide off but it is not doing so. Is there some hidden clips holding it to the bulb contacts?? if so how do i get in there to release the clips??/I am trying to change the headlight bulb on a 2001 Mitsubishi galant but the connector will not come off.
